Hair Rollers and Chardonnay

Whelp! First hurdle down. I’ve officially been chosen as one of the Top 50 Murphy Goode Candidates. And I have to say it does feel Goode! According to my confirmation e-mail there were 1,993 applicants (not all of whom were eligible I’m guessing because there were only around 800 or so videos). So, now on to the next step: Top 10 announced July 7th. I am proud to have been chosen to be in such a talented group and grateful to all of those (Jason, Nigel, Mike, Lisa, Adam, Shayleen, Joel, Mom, Dad to name a few) who have cheered me on and supported me and understood when I passed up going out on the town to stay home and blog :) HOWEVER, I blog to you right now decked in purple velvet hair rollers because I’m going out to celebrate! Getting it all out tonight though because come morning, I’ve got some social networkin’ to do!

Be Proud!

Cheers!

Cheers! There is one hour left for all the MG hopefuls to submit their video’s. If your movie making experience was anything like mine I know you have had some amazing, fun-filled, frustrating, brain wracking, hysterical days! If you even took the time at all to put together your application, then be proud. If you have been spending your days blogging and twittering and facebooking and learning all you can about social media, then know that you have invested your time into something worth while! Congratulations and Goode luck! It has been a pleasure getting to know you! Cheers!

Itchin to read sumpthin’?

So today I went perusing for some new material from interesting wine blogs and stumbled across this:

Wine Enthusiast Blogg Enthusiasm!

Wine Enthusiast Blogg Enthusiasm!

So cool! Wine Enthusiast online has created a forum for all types of wine rumination. As the site says:

“The diverse and passionate postings we’ve received in the past inspired us to broaden our scope; now, recommendations, rants and ruminations from all over the world will find a home here, in this grab bag of musings from our own New York City editors. We hope you’ll find this your place to sound off on the things that make us tick, and tick us off. Join us!”

The site combines posts of all varieties…everything from Mom’s drinkin’ beer to how women stack up in the wine world. Rad!

What a Deal!

So this may be old news BUT any news is good news right? Perfectly quaffable and such a great price: A by Acacia Chardonnay cost me exactly $10.99 at my local Ralphs. When I tasted it earlier in the day I honestly thought I was tasting something in the upper echelons of price range and was pleasantly surprised when I perused the aisles and found it not so. Green apples, creamy and just a dash or so of green pepper. Perfect with dinner or just alone with a good chat. Check it out, yo!

About the Best Combo Imaginable

Lakers. Large Pepperoni Cheese. 2005 Ferrari Carano Reserver Chardonnay. What else can you ask for??????

I had the Reserve Chardonnay on our Napa trip. We were blessed enough to have a private tasting where we ran into Mr. Carano himself. Nice man. REALLY nice wine. Full bodied with some butterscotch and really creamy. Goes well with rich foods such as…uhmmm…Round Table Pizza. You can get the regular Chardonnay and their Fume at the grocery, but probably need a specialty wine store for the Reserve, which is around $40. Well worth your time!

Dog Days of Summer

A bunch of cool peeps and I got together and had a Puppy Party today. 8 people, 5 dogs and some chaos. Warm weather and an empty day off instigated this, and to kick off the event we cracked open a bottle of Alpha Omega 2006 Chardonnay. A wonderful party starter with butter and some oak and a little minerality, this wine is winery direct but only around the mid $20 price range. Enjoyed by all! Except Petal, who apparently had one glass too many…

Don't worry....she had a D. D.

TASTE THIS! NOW!

I’m a sucker for Ports. And just now the Sommelier from one of my local favorite haunts came up and shoved this in my face and said, ‘TASTE THIS! NOW!” Its the PER BACCO ZINFANDEL PORT. And I have to agree…YUM. Lucious ripe prune, raisins and dried fruit. A little almond note and some added heat. It’s nice to have something out of Paso that’s not all sticky sweet!  Pairs well with…mmmmmm…a nice Maduro cigar and a fun social circle!

Bloggin’ for a Cause: Any Wine Pairs Well with Mud

I'm feeling quite proud of myself!

I'm feeling quite proud of myself!

So It’s been established that I like wine. But you wanna know what else I like? Giving back. In the last three years or so, some of my dumb adolescence has worn off and I’ve realized that the world is only better when those who can, pitch in.  If hired for the MG job, I would definatlely want to make ‘giving back’ a Goode word…er…two words. And in keeping with the practice what you preach mentality, I regulary donating my time at a local comminity clinic. However, today I took things to a new level and decided to dedicate my time,  soul…and body. The Camp Pendelton Marine Mud Run (http://www.mudrun.com/)  is an annual 10K that raises money for our troops. Now, at the time I signed up ( 8 months ago) it SEEMED like a FANTASTIC idea. However, after 10 days in wine country, and an additional 5 days of, well, doing nothing, the Mud Run arrived and I was about as prepared as Jabba the Hut. I now have an greater knowledge of what the word gross means…but when you have 15 Marines yelling at you to ‘ GET DOWN AND CRAWL THROUGH THE MUD!”, you get down and crawl through the dang mud! I was FILTHY. FILTHY! I have to say though, that while excrutiating…and dirty…I would TOTALLY do it again next year! Even as I’m writing this, my whole body is throbbing, but hey, its for the troops…and a Goode cause. Hoo Ra!

What I am quaffing at the moment…

Mantanzas Creek Chardonnay 2006. For some reason it seems to pair well with mud (http://www.mudrun.com/index.html) and a long day on the grind. Its lean but oaky and toasty. Really nice buttery qualities! Around $25 retail, but probably won’t be at your local grocery.  Try wine retail stores etc. Go Partake!Partake!

Just Because…
